The digital detox vacation
Published on 22 juin 2017In this end of June, the summer holidays are fast approaching! For a few years now, and due to the hyper-connectivity of internet users, digital detox holidays are a subject that comes up regularly. What does it consist of? Who is it for? Is it possible to have enjoyable vacations while disconnected from the world? I will answer these questions, even if we, at Blue Valet, are addicted to the Internet.

1. The concept of digital detox vacations
The year has been challenging due to work, studies, or even news that is often far from rosy? Holidays are coming and are timely. For some time now, digital detox vacations have been talked about a lot. Goodbye smartphones, tablets, computers, minitels, and tamagotchis, hello disconnection! The goal is to no longer have contact with digital screens or an Internet connection.
We are indeed living in a hyper-connected generation and without necessarily realizing it, we spend a lot of time on our connected devices. In 2016, we spent 3h46 per day on digital activities and 3h50 in front of the television. This represents a large part of our days.
The definition of digital detox vacations is the one you give it. So, it is possible for you to impose this on yourself, during family vacations, for example. Turn off your electronic devices and put them in a closed place, so that you no longer touch them until the day of your return.
This will leave you time to engage in other activities, you know... real life! Of course, the more, the merrier. So, propose to your companions, family, or friends to join you in your approach, which will be much more enjoyable and easy to pass.
If you do not feel capable of imposing this detox on yourself, several travel agencies, tour operators, websites, and even some hotels offer vacations without access to your connected devices. At least there, you will no longer have a choice.
Often, these vacations are very focused on nature, calm, and well-being. Indeed, these offers are the perfect way to reach out to city dwellers in need of mother nature.
2. Where to go for digital detox vacations?
If this detox is improvised during already planned vacations, all destinations will be suitable. Of course, a paradisiacal beach will be more likely to disconnect you than a city trip to London, but everything is possible if you really want to. You could also discover an adventurer's soul in yourself, orient yourself with a map, and ask locals for directions or a nice restaurant (no one does that anymore in 2017, come on).
For organized vacations on the theme of digital detox, Homelidays recently selected 6 locations for "OFF" stays. Chalet, cabin, or mill, you will be sure to spend quiet vacations.
