Work at the Part-Dieu train station: what consequences for traffic and parking?
Published on 12 juin 2018The neighborhood around the La Part Dieu train station is undergoing major transformations as part of one of the largest urban redevelopment projects in the Lyon metropolis. Over the next four years, major construction work will be undertaken on Vivier-Merle Boulevard and Pompidou Avenue, where the new entrance to the station will be located.
The city aims to revitalize the neighborhood and promote the entire metropolis through this project. In the meantime, motorists will have to be patient if they want to use the main arteries of the neighborhood. What are the consequences for traffic?
The major construction work in the La Part Dieu neighborhood is causing many disruptions to the traffic of motorists, public transport in the city of Lyon, and pedestrians, and this has been the case since January. 1. The Vivier-Merle Tunnel
After the closure for 4 months of the Brotteaux-Servient tunnel, reopened in May 2018, it is now the turn of the Vivier-Merle tunnel to be closed to traffic for a period of two years between Rue Paul Bert and Rue Seraient. The aim is to free up space for pedestrians and Lyon public transport around Charles Béraudier square. During the construction work, pedestrians, bicycles and city transport will be allowed on Boulevard Vivier-Merle.
2. Pompidou Avenue
Access to the Part Dieu station has been completely redesigned. To create a new entrance to the south of Part-Dieu, the first work will consist of demolishing the bridge-garden and the still-existing footbridge. The aim is to create a passage under the railway tracks with access for bicycles and pedestrians. Since March 2018, Pompidou Avenue has been closed to traffic between Rue de la Villette and Boulevard Vivier-Merle. Motorists are diverted to the north on Rue Bonne and to the south on Rue Paul Bert. The detours for pedestrians and cyclists also redirect to Rue Paul Bert.
