The 25th anniversary of Pink October

Les 25 ans d'Octobre Rose

Every year, the month of October is dressed in pink for the fight against breast cancer. A global communication operation around this cause that affects over 50,000 new women each year in France.

Initially, the idea came from the vice-president of the American cosmetic brand Estée Lauder, who wished to raise funds to finance breast cancer research. It was 1992 and the pink ribbon was born! In France, it was not until 1994 that Estée Lauder teamed up with Marie-Claire magazine to create the "Breast Cancer, Let's Talk About It!" association, which has since been leading the operation in France.

The objective of this campaign is to mobilize and raise awareness among women and their families about breast cancer through information and dialogue, and also on the importance of screening. Today, technical advances and science make it possible to detect tumors more quickly and finely. The cure rate is around 90% and 98% in case of localized tumors.

The perception of breast cancer has also evolved over the years, with more people speaking out and supporting actions.

To mark this month of mobilization, actions are taken by municipalities, sports clubs, or even major clothing and food brands, among others.

Beyond advances in treatment, the disease would be better supported by women thanks to the physical and psychological support provided by certain communities and associations.

This is the case of the Rose Association, which was founded in 2011 by two friends: Céline Lis Raoux and Céline Dupré. They first noticed that no magazine dealt with the issue of women with cancer, and that no answers were given to their questions. They therefore conceived and published a magazine for all these women: Rose Magazine.

Cancer is part of our society, and 1 in 4 women will face it. To support them in this fight, the Rose Association aims to allow them to continue their lives as women, wives, mothers, and professionals, but also to feel less alone facing the disease. Thus, the Rose Association is committed to informing, supporting, and defending the rights of women with cancer by setting up various support devices such as the Rose House in Bordeaux, the community portal that allows patients and caregivers to exchange with each other, or the Rose Car carpooling platform...

This month, Blue Valet has decided to support the cause of women with breast cancer and is committed to the Rose Association. To this end, we have decided to donate 0.50 euros for every order placed between October 1st and 31st, 2017.

Our team also participated in the Pink Ribbon Challenge in Bordeaux on Sunday, October 15th. The challenge is a 6 or 10 km walk or run to raise awareness about screening and prevention against breast cancer. The amount of the participation is donated to associations to extend and develop their actions of prevention and screening of cancers locally.

We have chosen to support the action of the Rose Association, which is very much in line with the desire to raise awareness and alert public opinion while conveying a message of hope. An optimistic philosophy to bring women together, a beautiful fight!
