Stress en avion : apprenez à le gérer

Many people are afraid of flying. Is it logical? Maybe, because humans weren't designed to fly. In a plane, we control nothing, which can be frustrating for some. Yet, airplanes are one of the safest means of transportation, but every accident, no matter how rare, is heavily publicized and spectacular: it fuels anxiety.

In reality, it's mostly the fear of the unknown that is linked to the fear of flying: most people don't really understand how such an apparatus can fly. It can also be explained by the fear of not being in control: as passengers, we are powerless to control the plane (fortunately, right?). Here are our tips for managing your stress while traveling by plane.

Our first advice is not to anticipate the moment of departure. It is well known that "fear does not prevent danger," which is why it would be a shame to think, before D-day, about the reasons why you are afraid of flying: it would only feed it.

👉 Arrive at the airport early enough not to have, in addition to the stress of flying, the stress of being late (opt for the Blue Valet solution). In addition, arriving earlier will allow you to relax by strolling, for example, in the DutyFree shops at the airport. Massage stands are often available there. Don't hesitate to pamper yourself.

👉 When boarding the plane, prefer seats located in the middle, towards the wings of the plane: you will feel less turbulence during the flight. Don't hesitate to ask to exchange seats with someone if you are not placed in this area.

👉 During the flight, try to occupy yourself: read a book, listen to music, watch a movie, eat... use your time as you wish, but don't just sit there doing nothing and focusing on your fear.

👉 Finally, motivate yourself, overcome your fears, you will come out stronger and more assertive! Indeed, the fact of managing oneself and overcoming one's fears makes us feel a great sense of pride when we succeed. And as a result, your next trip will go even smoother.

Don't forget, even if we only recommend it as a last resort, that there are medications to help you be less anxious: these are anxiolytics. For long-haul flights, you can also bring medication that promotes sleep. And yes, because when we sleep, we don't get anxious!
